Dobratsch Runde - Stage 5: Arnoldstein - Warmbad Villach

The Dobratsch Circuit connects diverse landscapes, cultural highlights, and impressive views around Carinthia's oldest nature park over five stages. Covering a total of approximately 85 kilometres, 2,400 metres in elevation, and with a walking time of around 25 hours, hikers experience the full diversity of the region: from gentle valley sections and traditional villages to scenic high-altitude trails. The Dobratsch Circuit is thus an ideal experience for anyone wishing to discover the nature park in its entirety—step by step, stage by stage.

Stage 5: Arnoldstein - Warmbad Villach
The fifth stage of the circular hiking trail leads through the unique landscape of the largest landslide area in the Eastern Alps. The scree slopes, formed by the major earthquake in 1348, still shape the landscape in a bizarre way today and create a habitat for an alpine-Mediterranean vegetation mosaic with an exceptionally high biodiversity. A visit to the Gail River is also worthwhile, especially when your feet need a cool-down. Near Federaun, you step back onto historical ground in Warmbad with the robber baron’s castle and the Roman road. The presence of healing springs invites you to a relaxing conclusion at the thermal centre in Warmbad. The hike is accompanied by nature park rangers. A shuttle will take you back to the starting point, with a return around 5:30 PM.
